It’s going to be roarsome!
St Clare Hospice is bringing an exciting event to Harlow and Epping in summer 2026 – a vibrant celebration of art and community, brought to life in a truly memorable way.
This trail is a fantastic opportunity to highlight that hospices are not only about end-of-life care - they are also here to help people live well.
The pride of Harlow & Epping
Lions on the Loose is proudly presented by St Clare Hospice, in partnership with Wild in Art. This free, inclusive art trail is designed to bring colour, creativity, and community spirit to the streets of Harlow and Epping—and it's something the whole family can enjoy.
Throughout the summer of 2026, Harlow and Epping will be transformed by a pride of super-sized lion sculptures, each one uniquely decorated by talented artists from across the region and beyond. These eye-catching works of art will form an exciting, interactive trail for locals and visitors to explore.
Alongside the main trail, a collection of ‘little lions’—created by local schools and community groups—will also be on display, showcasing the creativity of our young people.
A trail map will navigate avid art adventurers across the trail. The trail will also increase public awareness about hospice care and its importance and impact on our whole community. When the trail ends, the large sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for St Clare Hospice.
Lions on the Loose is the perfect summer activity: free, fun, and full of adventure. And by taking part, you’ll be helping support the patients and families who rely on the care of St Clare Hospice.
Why a lion?
The lion is a powerful symbol, one that resonates with the work of St Clare Hospice. Both the lion and the people we care for embody the qualities of resilience, strength, courage, and determination. Hospice care often requires incredible courage, especially when facing life’s hardest times. At St Clare we provide holistic care, offering strength and dignity to our patients and their families as they navigate the end of life, not with fear, but with fierce compassion and respect. We take pride in our work, in the communities we serve, and in the care we provide. Lions on the Loose is a fun, free event bringing people together to share a unique experience and promote a greater sense of pride in the places we live.
A lion’s pride is a family, built on support, unity, and working together. They care for one another, just as we do at St Clare, where teamwork, integrity, respect, compassion, and excellence guide everything we do. Like the lion, we stand strong together, supporting each other every step of the way
